Tampa Zoo With Donna and Katerina Part 1
My friend Donna promised her daughter Katerina that she wouldn't be bored this summer of 2007. Donna promised her Little Girl that she would have a summer full of Fun Things to do. One of these Fun Things was going to the Lowry Park Zoo in Tampa. Donna approached me in the beginning of the summer and asked if I would go with her and Katerina one day. Of course I said yes! I didn't know there was a Zoo in Tampa. So we planned our Zoo Day on a day that both Donna and I had off from work. Donna didn't tell Katerina where we were going, she kept saying it was a Surprise. Well, you can only imagine the look on Katerina's face when we pulled into the Zoo Entrance!
The first section of the Zoo we went through was with all the Primates. Monkeys, baboons, mandrills, we saw them all. I could've stayed there ALL day and watched them. They were all just SO fascinating! Makes you really think about what Darwin was thinking. The Big Daddy Orangatan looked at me like he could read my thoughts. A big, silent male protecting his family...my perfect man!
Then we moved on to the section that had the kangaroos. We stayed in there quite a while. One of the kangaroos had a joey in her pouch. And that was no small baby! He was actually folded up inside of his mama's pouch...in half! It was the strangest thing! I always thought joeys were small. This one looked like a teenager! We got to talking to the lady who was in the kangaroo section. She was VERY knowledgable and told us ALL about the kangaroos. The male wasn't happy until he was getting his jollies and knocking up the woman in his harem. He was even...ummm...taking care of business while we were standing there watching the joey and talking to the Zoo Member. When one of the female kangaroos scoffed at his friskiness, he just took matters into his own hands. And boy! What matter THAT was! He didn't even care that he had a slew of people around watching him. Evolution...?
